How to get alerts when the airspace changes before your flight

Updated

Airspace can change between the day you plan a flight and the day you fly: a NOTAM is published, a temporary zone is added, a zone is withdrawn. To be told when that affects you, open a saved flight plan, enter when you plan to fly under Monitor this plan and click Start monitoring. GeoPilot then re-checks the plan against the latest published zones, as they will be at your flight time, and sends you an alert whenever the result changes — until the flight time passes.

Start monitoring in four steps

  1. Draw and save the plan on the map.
  2. Open it: on your profile, under Flights, click View on the plan.
  3. Under Monitor this plan, fill in When do you plan to fly? — in your own local time.
  4. Click Start monitoring. The panel now shows Monitoring, the time it runs until, when it last checked, and how many restrictions currently conflict.
A running monitor: until Saturday at 14:00 UTC, last checked a few minutes ago, with one restriction currently conflicting, and the way to stop it.

What you are alerted about

Every check asks the same question the conflict check asks, but as of your flight time, and compares the answer with the last one. You get one alert when the picture changes, not one per check:

  • A restriction newly conflicts with your plan — a NOTAM or temporary zone published over your area, for example.
  • A conflicting restriction no longer conflicts in GeoPilot’s data — withdrawn, now ending before you fly, or no longer in the source’s feed.
  • A conflicting restriction changed — its effect is not what it was.

Alerts arrive in GeoPilot itself: in the notification bell at the top of the site, and as a short pop-up on the map. Clicking one opens the plan, where the conflict check shows the current picture.

Good to know

  • A plan has one monitor at a time. To change the flight time, stop monitoring and start again.
  • Monitoring stops by itself once the flight time passes; Stop monitoring ends it earlier.
  • It watches one moment — the time you enter. If you fly over several hours, use the map’s Time control to look at the rest of the window too.
  • Alerts are only as current as the sources: a change reaches you after the national publisher releases it and GeoPilot next synchronises.

Monitoring reports changes to airspace data near your plan. It is not a clearance and not a refusal — check the official sources, including the NOTAM briefing, before you fly.

Frequently asked questions

Will I get an email?
No. Alerts are delivered inside GeoPilot — the notification bell and the pop-up on the map.
How often is my plan checked?
Regularly, in the background, until your flight time. The panel shows when it last checked.
Do I need a paid plan?
Yes. Saving plans and monitoring them are part of the paid plan — see plans.
