Nine countries, one map: what GeoPilot's drone-zone data covers and what it leaves out

Acest articol este disponibil doar în engleză.

GeoPilot's map currently draws drone-zone data for nine countries, each synced from its own national publisher. The useful question for a pilot is not how many countries there are but, for the country you are flying in, what the feed does and does not contain.

The countries

GeoPilot covers Romania, Finland, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Portugal, Latvia, Norway, the United States and, partially, Australia. Each is read from the data its authority publishes and shown with that source's own attribution, in the map and in the API.

What each feed leaves out

No national feed is the whole picture, and GeoPilot adds nothing the publisher left out.

  • Temporary and NOTAM-only restrictions are mostly missing from the European feeds. For anything time-critical, go to the authority's own publication.
  • The United States feed carries no controlled airspace and most temporary flight restrictions.
  • Australia is partial: the land-manager drone rules for protected areas and correctional facilities, not CASA airspace, so it has no aerodromes or controlled airspace.

The map says so on screen for each country, because an empty area on this kind of map is easy to read as an answer.

Reuse terms differ by source

Some publishers license their data openly, some under attribution-only terms, and a few state no reuse terms at all. GeoPilot shows every source on its map and computes conflict checks over all of them, but it does not redistribute data from a source with no stated terms through its API.

Countries not live yet

A feed can be written and tested and still not be switched on. Some countries are registered but disabled, held back by various technical hiccups. An enabled country with a feed that is not syncing would look like an empty map, which on this product reads as nothing restricted, so GeoPilot leaves such countries off.

How to use this

  1. Open the map for your country and read the freshness panel for each source and its last sync.
  2. Read the coverage note shown for the country.
  3. Check the authority's own publication for anything time-critical.

An empty result in GeoPilot's data is not a clearance to fly. It means GeoPilot has no restriction on record there, from the sources listed.

The country pages list each source, its publisher and its licence, and the guide on drone geo-zones explains how to read what the map shows.
